November 01, 2005 Game 12: Devils Force Overtime, but Lose 4-3 to Penguins
The New Jersey Devils worked hard to force overtime, but ended up
losing 4-3 to the Pittsburgh Penguins at home on Tuesday, November 1,
2005.
There was no scoring in the first period, in which the Penguins
outshot the Devils 8-5.
Jamie Langenbrunner beat Sebastien Caron at 6:26 of the second
period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Langenbrunner's second goal of the
season was assisted by Jay Pandolfo and Sean Brown.
Mark Recchi beat Scott Clemmensen on the power-play at 15:16 to
tie the game, 1-1. Lasse Pirjeta scored just 1:17 later to give the
Penguins their first lead of the game.
The second period ended with the Penguins leading the Devils,
2-1. The Penguins outshot the Devils 15-10 in the period.
Malakhov had the puck taken away from him and the Penguins took
advantage, Maxime Talbot scored a short-handed goal at 3:08 of the third to
give the Pens a 3-1 lead.
Brian Gionta was credited with a power-play goal at 12:07 that
was kicked into the Pens net by ex-Devil Lyle Odelein. Gionta's sixth
goal of the season was assisted by Viktor Kozlov and Sean Brown.
Erik Rasmussen scored with just 2:12 remaining in the third
period to even the score, 3-3. Alexander Mogilny was credited with the
only assist on Rasmussen's second goal of the season.
Regulation time ended with the game tied, 3-3. The Devils
outshot the Penguins 13-12 in the period.
Sergei Gonchar won the game 1:01 into overtime to give the
Penguins only their second win of the season.
