The New Jersey Devils tossed the winless Penguins a 6-3 beating
in Pittsburgh on Thursday, October 20, 2005. The Devils now lead the
season series, 2-0.
Jay Pandolfo beat Jocelyn Thibault at 10:47 of the first period
to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Pandolfo's second goal of the season was
assisted by Jamie Langenbrunner and Sean Brown.
Scott Gomez scored with just 1:56 left in the first to increase
the Devils lead. Brian Gionta and Brian Rafalski assisted on Gomez's
first goal of the season.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Penguins,
1-0. The Devils outshot the Penguins 15-7 in the period.
Dick Tarnstrom beat Martin Brodeur at 8:14 of the second period
on a 4 on 4 to get the Penguins on the board. Just 29 seconds later, on the
same 4 on 4, Mario Lemieux scored to tie the game, 2-2.
Vladimir Malakhov regained the Devils lead by beating Thibault at
9:14 on a 4 on 3 power-play. Malakhov's first goal of the season was
assisted by Alexander Mogilny and Brian Rafalski.
Brian Gionta scored at 16:14 to increase the Devils lead to 4-2.
Sergei Brylin and Scott Gomez assisted on Gionta's fourth goal of the

4-2. The Penguins outshot the Devils 15-10 in the period.
Gionta beat Thibault for the second time in the game just 1:41
into the third period to make it a 3-goal Devils lead. Scott Gomez and

Zach Parise scored just 27 seconds after Gionta's second goal to
make it a 6-2 Devils lead. Parise's third goal of the season was scored

The shots were even 11-11 in the third period, though the Devils outshot
