October 18, 2005Game 6: Disciplined Devils Defeat Panthers 4-3 At Home
The New Jersey Devils defeated Florida Panthers, 4-3 at home on
Tuesday, October 18, 2005. The Devils played much more disciplined, only
taking one penalty in the match, while scoring on 3 of 7 power-play
opportunities. The win improved their record to 3-3.
Nathan Horton beat Martin Brodeur with just 2:05 remaining in the
first period to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
Sergei Brylin evened the score with a power-play goal at 19:03.
Brylin's third goal of the season was assisted by Brian Gionta and
The first period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The Devils
outshot the Panthers 14-6 in the period.
Viktor Kozlov beat Roberto Luongo at 13:38 on the power-play to
give the Devils their first lead of the game. Kozlov's second goal of
the season was assisted by Alexander Mogilny and Brian Rafalski.
Serge Payer banked the puck off Brodeur into the net at 16:22 to
tie the game, 2-2.
The second period ended with the game tied, 2-2. The
Panthers outshot the Devils 9-8 in the period.
Juraj Kolnik beat Brodeur 3:20 into the third period to make it a
3-2 Panthers lead.
Zach Parise recorded his second goal of the season just 43
seconds after Kolnik's goal to tie the game again. Parise's goal was
assisted by Alexander Mogilny and Dan McGillis.
Alexander Mogilny angled a bullet pass from Jamie Langenbrunner
past Luongo at 13:54 of the third period on the power-play to give the Devils a
4-3 lead. Mogilny's third goal of the season was also assisted by Viktor
The game ended with the Devils winning 4-3. New Jersey
outshot Florida 12-9 in the third period and 34-24 in the game.
Colin White, who injured his groin in the Devils 6-1 loss to the
Hurricanes was out of the lineup. Paul Martin returned to the lineup
after missing two games with injury.
