Game 4: Rangers Defeat Devils 4-1 in NY

The New Jersey Devils fell 4-1 to the Rangers in New York on Thursday, October 13, 2005.   The Devils next game will be played at home on Saturday at 7:30PM against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Martin Rucinsky beat Martin Broder at 11:35 of the first period and just 27 seconds later, Ville Nieminen scored to make it a 2-0 Ranger lead.   A bad turnover in the neutral zone led to another Rangers goal, scored by Blair Betts at 16:02 to increase their lead to 3 goals.

The first period ended with the Rangers leading 3-0 on the scoreboard and 12-6 in shots over the Devils.

The Devils managed to outshoot the Rangers 8-4 in the second period, but were unable to put any pucks past Lundqvist - the score remained 3-0 Rangers.

After a lot of hard work by Brian Gionta during 4 on 4 play, he put the puck behind Lundqvist and into the net at 4:16 of the third period to get the Devils on the board.   Vladimir Malakhov was credited with the only assist on Gionta's third goal of the season.

Jaromir Jagr beat Brodeur on the power-play at 12:59 of the third period to give the Rangers a 4-1 lead.

The third period came to a close with the Rangers winning, 4-1.   The shots were even 7-7 in the third period.
