October 08, 2005 Game 3: Devils Beat Rangers, 3-2 In Overtime
The New Jersey Devils beat the New York Rangers, 3-2 in overtime
at home on Saturday, October 8, 2005. The win improves the Devils record
to 2-1.
Jason Ward beat Martin Brodeur unassisted at 4:57 of the first
period to give the Rangers an early 1-0 lead.
Viktor Kozlov deflected a puck past Henrik Lundqvist at 15:39 to
tie the score, 1-1. Kozlov's first goal of the season was assisted by
Brian Rafalski and Zach Parise.
The first period ended with the Rangers outshooting the Devils,
13-1 and the score tied, 1-1.
Martin Rucinsky scored at 8:32 beating Brodeur on the power-play
to give the Rangers a 2-1 lead.
The second period ended with the Rangers leading the Devils,
2-1. The Rangers outshot the Devils 13-7 in the period.
Alexander Mogliny scored on the power-play, just 2:14 into the
third period to tie the game, 2-2. Mogilny's second goal of the season
was assisted by Scott Gomez and Brian Rafalski.
Regulation time ended with the game tied, 2-2, forcing overtime.
The Devils outshot the Rangers 17-6 in the third period.
Brian Rafalski scored 3:17 into the overtime period to win the
game. Rafalski's first goal of the season was assisted by Viktor Kozlov
and Paul Martin.
The Devils do not play again until Thursday, when they will face
the Rangers again, this time at Madison Square Garden at 7:00PM.
