April 18, 2004 Pat Burns Has Colon Cancer
New Jersey Devils head coach, Pat Burns, announced on Sunday,
April 18, 2004, that he has been diagnosed with colon cancer and will begin
treatment immediately.
He apparantly was diagnosed just prior to the start of the
playoffs. Had the Devils advanced past the first round, he said he
would have been unable to continue coaching the later rounds.
