April 04, 2004 Game 82: Devils Lose to Bruins, Face Flyers in 1st Round
The New Jersey Devils were defeated 3-1 at home by the Boston
Bruins on Sunday, April 4, 2004. The Devils loss and the Flyers tie with
the Islanders means the Devils will play the Flyers in the first round of the
playffs, with Philadelphia having home-ice advantage.
Here are a few of my pictures
from the game.
Travis Green gave the Bruins an early lead, beating Martin
Brodeur just 57 seconds into the first period. Glen Murray made it a 2-0
lead with a power-play goal just 1:54 later.
Sergei Samsonov added a third Bruins goal at 15:17 and the first
period ended with Boston leading, 3-0. The Bruins outshot the Devils,
10-1 in the first period.
There was no scoring in the second period and the shots were
even, 8-8.
Jamie Langenbrunner got the Devils on the board, beating Andrew
Raycroft with a power-play goal at 11:53 of the third period, but the Devils
were unable to tie the game. Scott Niedermayer and Brian Rafalski
assisted on Langenbrunner's 10th goal of the season.
The game ended with the Bruins defeating the Devils, 3-1.
The Bruins outshot the Devils 6-5 in the third period and 24-14 in the
game.
Boston with the victory, won the season series, 2-1-1. The
game was the second half of a home-and-home series - the teams traded road
victories.
The game was the final Devils game of the regular season.
They finished the regular season 22-13-5-1 at home and 21-12-7-1 on the
road.
