March 26, 2004 Game 78: Devils Beat Thrashers 5-0 - PP Nets 4
The New Jersey Devils beat the Thrashers 5-0 in Atlanta on
Friday, March 26, 2004. Scott Clemmensen got the shutout and the Devils
scored 4 power-play goals in the thrashing of Atlanta.
Patrik Elias gave the Devils an early lead with a power-play
goal, beating Pasi Nurminen at 4:36 of the first period. Elias' 36th
goal of the season was assisted by Raymond Giroux and Scott Gomez.
Scott Gomez beat Nurminen at 16:01 to make it a 2-0 Devils lead.
Brian Gionta and Patrik Elias assisted on Gomez's 11th goal of the
season.
The first period ended with the Devils outshooting the Thrashers
13-7 and leading 2-0 on the scoreboard.
Scott Gomez deflected a shot from Scott Niedermayer that beat
Nurminen on the power-play with just 37 seconds remaining in the second
period. Gomez's second goal of the game was also assisted by Patrik
Elias.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Thrashers,
3-0. The Devils outshot Atlanta 7-3 in the period.
Paul Martin beat Nurnimen on a Devils 5 on 3 power-play at 17:52
of the third period. Martin's sixth goal of the season was assisted by
Patrik Elias and Jamie Langenbrunner.
Sergei Brylin capped the Devils scoring with another power-play
goal with just 11 seconds remaining. Brylin's 14th goal of the season
was assisted by John Madden and Paul Martin.
The game ended with the Devils beating the Thrashers 5-0.
The Devils outshot Atlanta 12-8 in the third period and 32-18 in the
game.
With the victory, the Devils win the season series, 3-1.
