The New Jersey Devils lost 2-1 in Tampa Bay, to the Lightning on
Thursday, March 25, 2004. With the Lightning win, they swept the season
series (4-0) over the Devils.
The teams each had 6 shots in a scoreless first period.
Pavel Kubina beat Martin Brodeur at 8:32 of the second period to
give the Lightning a 1-0 lead.
The Devils outshot the Lightning 7-5 in the second period, but
trailed 1-0 on the scoreboard.
Patrik Elias tied the game, beating Nikolai Khabibulin at 10:38
of the third period. Scott Niedermayer and Scott Gomez assisted on
Elias' 35 goal of the season.
Brad Richards was credited with a goal at 15:02 of the third
period, when the puck deflected off Viktor Kozlov past Brodeur.
The game ended with Tampa Bay defeating the Devils, 2-1.
The shots were even 6-6 in the third period, though the Devils outshot the
Lightning 19-17 in the game.
Jan Hrdina was a healthy scratch for the Devils.
