March 09, 2004 Game 69: Flyers Beat Devils 3-1
The New Jersey Devils lost at home, 3-1 to the Philadelphia
Flyers on Tuesday, March 9, 2004. It was the NHL trade deadline - a day
on which many teams made player moves, but the Devils did not.
Here are a few of my
pictures from the game.
Mark Recchi beat Martin Brodeur with just 1:17 remaining in the
first period to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.
Rafalski left late in the first period with a leg injury and did
not return to the game.
The first period ended with Philadelphia leading 1-0, and
outshooting the Devils 8-6.
Kim Johnsson score for the Flyers just 1:11 into the second
period to increase the Flyers lead. No other goals were scored in the
period -- the Flyers again outshot the Devils, 7-4.
Turner Stevenson beat Robert Esche 6:05 into the third period to
give the Devils hope of a comeback, but it would not happen. Scott
Niedermayer and Scott Gomez assisted on Stevenson's 11th goal of the
season.
John Leclair added an empty net goal for the Flyers with just 13
second remaining to seal the Flyers victory. The Devils outshot the
Flyers 11-5 in the third period and 21-20 in the game.
The season series is now tied, 2-2-1 -- The teams will meet once
more in the 2003-2004 regular season (on Saturday, March 13).
