February 17, 2004Game 58: Devils & Wild Skate to 4-4 Tie
The New Jersey Devils skated to a 4-4 tie at home with the
Minnesota Wild on Tuesday, February 17, 2004.
Here are a few of my
pictures from the game.
Erik Rasmussen beat Manny Fernandez at 15:53 of the first period
to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Rasmussen's fourth goal of the season was
assisted by Grant Marshall and Mike Rupp.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Wild, 1-0.
The Wild outshot the Devils 11-7 in the period.
2:02 into the second period, Marian Gaborik beat Martin Brodeur
after a Devils defensive breakdown, to tie the game, 1-1.
Paul Martin recorded his fourth goal of the season at 5:28 on the
power-play to give the Devils a 2-1 lead. Martin's goal was assisted by
Scott Niedermayer and Scott Gomez.
Sergei Zholtok took advantage of a bad clearing attempt by Martin
Brodeur and shot the puck into the empty net at 6:38 to tie the game
Brian Gionta beat Fernandez at 10:06 of the second to give the
Devils their third lead of the game. Gionta's 13th goal of the season
was assisted by Jeff Friesen and Scott Gomez.
Marion Gaborik got his second goal of the game just off a faceoff
at 18:01 to tie the game, 3-3.
The second period ended with the game tied, 3-3. The
Devils outshot the Wild, 15-10 in the period.
Gaborik completed a hat trick, scoring his third goal of the game
on the power-play at 12:12 of the third period.
Brian Gionta evened the score with his second goal of the game
just 1:21 later. Gionta's 14th goal of the season was assisted by Scott
Niedermayer and Scott Gomez.
Regulation time ended with the game tied, and neither team could
score in overtime. The Devils outshot the Wild 36-34 in the game.
The game was the only regular season matchup between the
teams in 2003-2004.
