January 23, 2004 Game 47: Brodeur Shuts The Door On Canadiens, 2-0
The New Jersey Devils defeated the the Montreal Canadiens at
home, 2-0 on Friday, January 23, 2004. The shutout was the tenth of the
season for Martin Brodeur and the 74th of his career.
Here are a few of my
pictures from the game.
Patrik Elias put the Devils on the board, with 3:43 remaining in
the first period, when he beat Jose Theodore with a great short-handed
goal. Sergei Brylin assisted on Elias' 16th goal of the season.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Canadiens,
1-0. The Devils outshot the Habs, 10-5 in the period.
Grant Marshall put the puck past Theodore just 15 seconds into a
Devils power-play, at 4:55 of the second period to make it a 2-0 Devils lead.
Patrik Elias and Paul Martin assisted on Marshall's fourth goal of the
season.
At the end of the second period, the Devils led the Canadiens,
2-0. The Devils outshot the Canadiens 8-4 in the period.
Grant Marshall was illegally denied a scoring opportunity at
11:58 of the third period and was awarded a penalty shot. He did not
score, but made a good move and had a good chance.
The game ended with the Devils winning, 2-0. The Habs
outshot the Devils 12-6 in the third period, but were outshot 24-21 in the
game.
The Devils now lead the season series, 1-0. The teams will
meet three more times before the end of the regular season.
