January 15, 2004 Game 43: Devils & Rangers Tie Things Up, 3-3
The New Jersey Devils skated to a 3-3 tie with the Rangers in
New York on Thursday, January 15, 2004.
Anson Carter beat Martin Brodeur with just 1:11 remaining in the
first period to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. The first period ended
with the Rangers leading the Devils, 1-0. The Devils outshot the Rangers
12-8 in the period.
Erik Rasmussen tied the game at 5:33 of the second period by
making some nice moves to beat Mike Dunham. Turner Stevenson and Scott
Niedermayer assisted on Rasmussen's second goal of the season.
John Madden made a great last-second pass to Pandolfo, who put
the puck past Dunham at 8:41 to make it a 2-1 Devils lead. Scott
Niedermayer also assisted on Pandolfo's ninth goal of the season.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the Rangers, 2-1.
The Rangers outshot the Devils 13-11 in the period.
Chad Wiseman beat Martin Brodeur with his first NHL game just 42
seconds into the third period to tie the game, 2-2.
Sergei Brylin recorded his eighth goal of the season at 4:05 to
give the Devils a 3-2 lead. Paul Martin and Igor Larionov assisted on
the goal.
Matthew Barnaby tied the game with just 1:49 remaining in the
third period to force overtime.
There was no scoring in the overtime period. The shots
were even, 33-33 in the game. The Devils now lead the season series,
2-0-1. The teams will meet four mores times in the regular
season.
