January 05, 2004 Game 38: Devils Pull Out 3-2 OT Win Over Oilers
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Edmonton Oilers, 3-2 in
overtime at home on Monday, January 5, 2004.
Here are a few of my
pictures from the game.
Turner Stevenson returned to the Devils lineup and made an impact
5:06 into the first period, beating Tommy Salo on the power-play. Scott
Gomez recorded the only assist on Stevenson's third goal of the season.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Oilers, 1-0.
The shots were even, 8-8 in the period.
Raffi Torres beat Martin Brodeur to tie the game just 1:36 into
the second period.
The second period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The
Oilers outshot the Devils 12-6 in the period.
Ethan Moreau gave the Oilers a 2-1 lead at 3:35 of the third
period after a turnover by the Devils defense.
Sergei Brylin beat Salo at 15:22 to tie the game, 2-2.
Brylin's seventh goal of the season was assisted by Patrik Elias and Scott
Niedermayer.
Regulation time ended with the game tied, 2-2. The Devils
outshot the Oilers 11-5 in the period.
Patrik Elias scored just 41 seconds into the 5 minute overtime
period to win the game for the Devils. Elias' 12th goal of the season
was assisted by Scott Gomez and Scott Stevens.
Aleksander Suglobov made his NHL debut in a Devils uniform,
skating 9 shifts for 8:18 -- he also recorded two shots on goal.
