December 04, 2003 Game 24: Devils Crush Caps, 3-0
The New Jersey Devils dominated the Washington Capitals at home
on Thursday, December 4, 2003, shutting them down, 3-0. The shutout was
Martin Brodeur's fifth of the season and the 69th of his career.
Paul Martin beat Olaf Kolzig just 2:25 into the first period with
a rocket of a shot to give the Devils an early 1-0 lead. Martin's
second goal of the season was assisted by Igor Larionov and Patrik
Elias.
Turner Stevenson deflected a shot past Kolzig from Paul Martin on
the power-play at 9:10 to increase the Devils lead. Jeff Friesen also
assisted on Stevenson's second goal of the season.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Capitals,
2-0. The Devils outshot the Capitals, 13-1 in the period. It was
more than 16 minutes into the period before Washington got their only shot of
the period on Brodeur.
There was no scoring in the second period, though the Devils
continued to dominate the Capitals in the period, outshooting them 19-4.
Jeff Friesen scored after a faceoff win to increase the Devils
lead to 3 goals. Turner Stevenson and Erik Rasmussen assisted on
Friesen's fifth goal of the season.
The game ended with the Devils defeating the Capitals, 3-0.
The Devils outshot the Capitals 9-4 in the third period and 41-9 in the
game.
