October 11, 2003 Game 2: Devils Beat Hurricanes: 2-1
The New Jersey Devils recorded their first win of the
2003-2004 season with a 2-1 victory over the Hurricanes in Raleigh,
North Carolina, on Saturday, October 11, 2003.
Sergei Brylin deflected the puck past Kevin Weekes at 18:41 of
the first period, on the power-play to give the Devils a 1-0 lead.
Brylin's 1st goal of the season was assisted by Brian Rafalski and Igor
Larionov.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Hurricanes,
1-0. New Jersey outshot Carolina 8-7 in the period.
The Devils increased their lead to 2-0, 14:28 into the second
period when Jamie Langenbrunner scored his 1st goal of the season. The
goal was assisted by Jay Pandolfo and John Madden.
The Hurricanes outshot the Devils 9-6 in the second period, which
ended with the Devils leading, 2-0.
With 7:30 left in the third period, Rod Brind'Amour ruined Martin
Brodeur's shutout bid.
The game ended with the Devils defeating the Hurricanes, 2-1.
The Hurricanes outshot the Devils 15-8 in the third period, and 31-22
in the game. Carolina also won 57% of the faceoffs..
Martin Brodeur now holds the NHL record for most games played
(667) by a goaltender that played their entire career with one team.
