Round 3 Game 3: Devils Shutdown Senators, 1-0

    The New Jersey Devils defeated the Ottawa Senators, 2-1 at home, on Thursday, May 15, 2003.

    Sergei Brylin gave the Devils an early 1-0 lead, by beating Patrick Lalime with an incredible deflection at 10:48 of the first period.   Brylin's first goal of the playoffs was assisted by Brian Rafalski.

    Jay Pandolfo beat Lalime at 12:10, just 1:32 after Brylin's goal, however no one knew at the time.   Television replays showed that the puck had clearly gone over the line and quickly out, but since the puck had already been dropped for the next play, the goal could not count.

    The first period ended with the Devils leading the Senators, 1-0.   The Devils outshot the Senators, 9-5 in the period.

    There was no scoring in the third period, the Devils outshot the Senators 11-6 in the period.

    There was no scoring in the third period - the Devils won the game, 1-0.
