April 11, 2003 Round 1 Game 2: Devils Beat Bruins: 4-2!
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Boston Bruins, 4-2 at home on
Friday, April 11, 2003.
Glen Murray gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead at 8:52 of the first
period, beating Martin Brodeur with a shot from in close.
Scott Stevens fired up the Devils with a big hit on Mike Knuble
a little more than 13 minutes into the first period. Less than a minute
later Jeff Friesen scored to tie the game, 1-1 with a quick blast at 14:17.
Friesen's 1st goal of the playoffs was assisted by Jamie Langenbrunner
and Joe Nieuwendyk.
Brian Rafalski gave the Devils a 2-1 lead with a goal on the
power-play with just 26 seconds remaining in the period. John Madden and
Scott Niedermayer's 1st goal of the playoffs.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Bruins, 2-1.
The Bruins outshot the Devils 9-7 in the period.
Dan Mcgillis tied the game with a power-play goal at 13:59 of the
second period.
The second period ended with the game tied, 2-2. The shots
were even, 15-15 in the period.
Jamie Langenbrunner scored his 3rd goal of the playoffs just 15
seconds into the third period, on a 4 on 3 power-play. Langenbrunner's
goal was assisted by Scott Niedermayer and John Madden.
Joe Nieuwendyk took a great leading pass from Jamie Langenbrunner
and lifted it over Shieds at 14:24 of the third period to give the Devils a 4-2
lead. Jeff Friesen, who made a great play to set up the play, got the
secondary assist on Nieuwendyk's 1st goal of the playoffs.
The third period ended with the Devils defeating the Bruins, 4-2.
The Devils outshot the Bruins 11-5 in the third period, and 30-26 in the
game.
Both teams went with the same lineups in game 2 that they used in
game 1.
