April 03, 2003 Game 80: Devils & Bruins Skate to 1-1 Tie
The New Jersey Devils skated to a 1-1 tie at home against the
Boston Bruins on Thursday, April 3, 2003.
Here are a few of my pictures
from the game.
Joe Nieuwendyk gave the Devils an early 1-0 lead by beating
Steve Shields at 3:36 of the first period. Jamie Langenbrunner got the
only assist on Nieuwendyk's 17th goal of the season.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Bruins, 1-0.
The Devils outshot the Bruins 7-6 in the period.
Scott Niedermayer lost the puck to Joe Thornton, who made his
way to alone and beat Brodeur at 3:57 of the second period to tie the game,
1-1.
The second period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The
Devils outshot the Bruins 10-7 in the period.
There was no scoring in the third period, but the Bruins outshot
the Devils 8-7 in the period.
The Devils had a goal disallowed 49 seconds into the overtime,
as Jamie Langenbrunner was called for a questionable holding penalty.
Though the Devils were shorthanded, they had the better chances in the
overtime - outshooting the Bruins 5-2.
There was no goals scored - that counted - in the overtime, so
the game ended, in a 1-1 tie. The Devils outshot the Bruins 29-23 in
the game.
The game was the Devils last home game of the regular
season.
