March 30, 2003 Game 78: Devils Romp Islanders, 6-0! Record Game!
The New Jersey Devils destroyed the Islanders, 6-0 in East
Rutherford on Sunday, March 30, 2003. Patrik Elias netted 4 goals, Scott
Gomez had 5 assists, and Martin Brodeur became the first goaltender to record
4 40-win seasons - with his 64th career (9th of the season) shutout.
Here are a few of my pictures
from the game.
Scott Stevens gave the Devils an early 1-0 lead, with a shot that
beat Rick DiPietro just 5:04 into the first period. Scott Gomez and
Patrik Elias assisted on Stevens' 4th goal of the season.
Patrik Elias recorded his 24th goal of the season at 11:51 of the
first period, on the power-play. Scott Niedermayer and Scott Gomez
assisted on the goal.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Islanders,
2-0. The Devils outshot the Islanders, 12-6 in the period.
Patrik Elias beat DiPietro again at the 14:22 mark of the second
period to give the Devils a 3-0 lead. Scott Gomez and Scott Niedermayer
assisted on Elias's 25th goal of the season.
The second period ended with the Islanders trailing the Devils,
3-0. The Devils outshot New York 8-6 in the second period.
Patrik Elias made it a 4-0 lead, recording his third goal of the
game (hat trick) just 35 seconds into the third period. Brian Gionta and
Scott Gomez assisted on Elias's 26th goal of the season.
Elias beat DiPietro for the fourth time in the match at 14:11 of
the third. Brian Gionta and Scott Gomez assisted on Elias's 27th.
Turner Stevenson recorded his 7th goal of the season with 52
seconds remaining in the game to give the Devils a 6-0 lead. Joe
Nieuwendyk and Jeff Friesen assisted on the goal.
The game ended with the Devils beating the Islanders, 6-0.
The Devils outshot the Islanders 10-7 in the third period and 30-19 in the
game.
