March 01, 2003 Game 64: Devils Beat Capitals: 2-1 in Overtime
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Washington Capitals, 2-1, in
overtime at home on Saturday, March 1, 2003.
The first period saw no goals. The Devils outshot the
Capitals, 7-6 in the period.
Jeff Halpern beat Brodeur at 4:36 of the second period to give
the Capitals a 1-0 lead.
The second period ended with the Capitals leading the Devils,
1-0. The Caps also outshot the Devs 9-8 in the period.
Jamie Langenbrunner tied the game with just 33 seconds remaining
in regulation time. Langenbrunner's 18th goal of the season was assisted
by Jeff Friesen.
The third period ended with the game tied, 1-1. The
Capitals outshot the Devils 13-9 in the period.
Scott Stevens got his first goal of the season at 2:54 of the
overtime period to win the game for the Devils. Jamie Langenbrunner and
Joe Nieuwendyk assisted on the goal.
Oleg Tverdovsky returned to the lineup after missing most of the
year with concussion-like symptoms.
