February 19, 2003 Game 59: Devils Rally, but Fall to Senators, 5-3
The New Jersey Devils lost at home, 5-3 to the Ottawa Senators on
Wednesday, February 19, 2003. The tied the game with three goals in the
third period, but gave up one with just 1:15 remaining. The Senators
sealed the win with an empty net goal with 38 seconds left.
Here are a few of my pictures
from the game.
Martin Havlat gave the Senators an early lead by beating Brodeur
just 40 seconds into the first period.
Marian Hossa extended the Senators lead to 2 goals with his 37th
on the season at 8:02 of the first period. Havlat got his second of the
game at 15:14 to give Ottawa a 3-0 lead.
The first period ended with Ottawa leading New Jersey, 3-0.
The Devils were outshot 8-3 in the period.
There was no scoring in the second period. The Devils
outshot the Senators 7-6 in the second.
The Devils got on the board when Scott Niedermayer recorded his
10th goal of the season at 4:22 of the third period. Jay Pandolfo and
Scott Stevens assisted on the goal.
Jeff Friesen made it a one goal game at 8:22 on the power-play.
Friesen's 16th goal of the season was assisted by Jamie Langenbrunner
and Brian Rafalski.
Joe Nieuwendyk tied the game, 3-3, with a power-play goal at
12:16. Nieuwendyk's 12th goal of the season was assisted by Tommy
Albelin and Scott Stevens.
Radek Bonk beat Brodeur with just 1:15 remaining in regulation
time to spoil the Devils dramatic comeback. Marian Hossa got an
empty-net goal at 19:22 to seal the Senators win.
The game ended with the Senators defeating the Devils, 5-3.
The Devils outshot the Senators 12-5 in the third period and 22-20 in
the game.
