The New Jersey Devils beat the defending Stanley Cup Champion
Detroit Red Wings, 1-0 on Tuesday, January 28, 2003. Martin Brodeur
recorded his 61st career shutout, and 6th of the season.
There was no scoring in the first period. The Devils
outshot the Red Wings, 9-5 in the period.
The second period was packed with action, but still no goals.
The shots were even, 8-8 during the period.
Scott Niedermayer blasted the puck past Manny Legace at 3:36 of
the third period, on the power-play. Brian Rafalski and Scott Gomez
assisted on Niedermayer's 8th goal of the season.
The Red Wings had a number of great chances in the last minute of
the game, with their net empty, but were unable to beat Brodeur. The
Devils outshot Detroit 12-3 in the third period and 29-16 in the game.
