Game 25: Devils Lose to Toronto, 1-0

    The New Jersey Devils were defeated, 1-0 by the Maple Leafs in Toronto, on Saturday, December 7, 2002.

    Travis Green got the Maple Leafs on the board at 12:53 of the first period, with the Leafs third shot on goal.

    Brian Rafalski leaft early in the first period, with bruised ribs, after playing only three shifts.

    The first period ended with Toronto leading the Devils, 1-0.   The Devils outshot the Leafs 13-3 in the period.

    There was no scoring in the second period, though the Devils outshot the Leafs, 11-9 in the period.

    There was no scoring in the third period, the Leafs won the game, 1-0.   The Devils outshot the Leafs 14-3 in the period and 38-14 in the game.

    The Maple Leafs now lead the lifetime series, 24-23-9-0; the Devils are 9-16-4-0 in Toronto.

    Corey Schwab got the start in goal against his former team, after Martin Brodeur was in net on Friday against the Penguins.

    Jiri Bicek was recalled from Albany on Saturday - he took Christian Berglund's spot in the lineup.

    Scott Stevens now holds 7th place on the all time list for most NHL games played.

    Turner Stevenson played in his 500th career game.

    Scott Gomez can reach the 200 point mark with 2 against the Leafs.

    Tommy Albelin and Christian Berglund were healthy scratches for the Devils.
