November 07, 2002 Game 11: Devils Shutout Flyers, 1-0
The New Jersey Devils beat the Flyers, 1-0 in Philadelphia
on Thursday, November 7, 2002. Brodeur made 23 saves to record his
first shutout of the season and the 56th of his career.
The first period ended with the game scoreless. The
Flyers outshot the Devils 11-8 in the period.
Each team had one power-play opportunity in the first twenty
minutes. The Flyers won 66% of the faceoffs in the first.
The Flyers had 1:19 of 5-3 power-play time with Patrik Elias
and Scott Niedermayer in the penalty box, but were unable to even get a
shot on net.
Jeff Friesen had a breakaway about 7 minutes into the second
period, after a nice pass from Ken Daneyko, but was unable to lift the puck
over the pads of Roman Cechmanek.
The second period ended the shots even at 19-19, and the game
still scoreless.
Jamie Langenbrunner beat Cechmanek with a nice, high wrist
shot at 12:17 of the third period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead.
Langenbrunner's third goal of the season was scored unassisted.
The game ended with the Devils winning, 1-0. The Devils
outshot the Flyers 8-5 in the third and 27-24 in the game.
The game was the first one of the season against a
divisional opponent for the Devils.
The Devils now lead the lifetime series, 58-52-13 - though in
Philadelphia trail 23-32-8.
Tommy Albelin, Stephen Guolla, and Christian Berglund were
scratches for the Devils.
