September 26, 2002Pre-Season Game 5: Flyers and Devils
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Philadelphia Flyers,
4-0 at home on Thursday, September 26, 2002. Corey Schwab got
the shutout for the Devils.
Stephen Guolla got the Devils on the board with 2:05
remaining in the first period. Guolla's goal was unassisted.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Flyers
1-0. The shots were even, 8-8 in the period.
Joe Nieuwendyk gave the Devils a 2-0 lead at 3:11 of the
second period on the power-play. Nieuwendyk's first goal of the
pre-season was assisted by Patrik Elias.
Jay Pandolfo scored just 1:38 after Nieuwendyk's goal,
giving the Devils a 3-0 lead. Zyuzin and Madden assisted on
Pandolfo's first goal of the season.
Pandolfo's goal chased Roman Cechmanek from the Flyers
net. He was replaced by Neil Little.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the
Flyers, 3-0. The Devils outshot the Flyers 9-5 in the period.
Joe Nieuwendyk scored his second goal of the game at 8:37
of the third period to give the Devils a 4-0 lead. Andreas
Salomonsson and Andrei Zyuzin got assists on the goal.
The game ended with the Devils winning, 4-0. The
Flyers outshot the Devils 12-4 in the third period and 25-21 in the
Tommy Albelin was on the ice for all of the goals, except
for the power-play goal. He had the best plus/minus, +3.
The Devils converted on 1 of 5 power-play opportunities,
the Flyers went 0 for 3.
The three stars of the game were: (1) Corey Schwab, (2)
Joe Nieuwendyk, (3) Andrei Zyuzin.
Jim McKenzie wore the "C" for the Devils tonight, as
Scott Stevens was not in the lineup.
Notes: Announced attendance for the game was 7,409.
