February 10, 2002Devils Beat Sabres 4-1, Arnott Hat Trick
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Buffalo Sabres 4-1 at
home, on Sunday, February 10, 2002.
Colin White was assessed a 5 minute major penalty for
"checking from behind" at 3:48 of the period. He was also assessed
a fighting major and a 10 minute game misconduct and was ejected from
the game. The Devils had dressed 7 defensemen due to Petr Sykora
(sore ribs) and Sergei Nemchinov (back) being scratched from the lineup,
so they were not short on defense.
Jason Arnott took a nice pass from Elias from behind the
net and put the puck past Martin Biron to give the Devils a 1-0 lead at
11:12 of the first period. Arnott's 18th goal of the season was
assisted by Patrik Elias and Brian Gionta. The goal came just
minutes after the Devils killed off the major penalty to Colin White.
The first period ended with the Devils leading the Sabres,
1-0. The Sabres outshot the Devils 7-4 in the period.
Bobby Holik gave the Devils a 2-0 lead at 9:48 of the second
period. Holik's 19th goal of the season was assisted by Valeri
Jason Arnott beat Biron just 51 seconds later to give the
Devils a 3-0 lead. Arnott's second goal of the game was assisted by
Patrik Elias and Brian Gionta.
Jason Arnott completed his first hat trick as a Devil (third
career) at 17:33 of the second period period on the power-play.
Arnott's 20th goal of the season was assisted by Brian Rafalski and Christian
