January 19, 2002 Devils & Hurricanes Tie 3-3
The New Jersey Devils skated to a 3-3 tie at home against
the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, January 19, 2002.
There was no scoring in the first period. The Devils
outshot the Hurricanes, 10-6 in the period.
Bret Hedican beat Martin Brodeur at 2:16 of the second
period to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead.
John Madden tied the game just 1:01 after the Hedican goal.
Madden's 8th goal of the season was assisted by Jay Pandolfo.
&nbdp; Jason Arnott gave the Devils a 2-1 lead at 15:57 of the
second period on the power-play. Arnott's 15th goal of the season
was assisted by Brian Rafalski and Patrik Elias.
The second period ended with the Devils leading the
Hurricanes by a score of 2-1. The shots were even, 8-8, in the
period.
Petr Sykora got his 15th goal of the season at 1:23 of the
third period, giving the Devils a 3-1 lead. Patrik Elias and Brian
Rafalski got assists on the goal.
Brian Rafalski accidentally redirected a shot from Erik
Cole past Martin Brodeur at 5:14 of the third to cut the Devils lead to
3-2.
Aaron Ward scored for the Hurricans at 17:07 of the third
period to tie the game, 3-3.
Regulation time ended with the game tied, 3-3. The
Hurricane's outshot the Devils 8-7 in the period.
The 5 minute overtime period had lots of action, but no
scoring, so the game ended in a 3-3 tie. The Devils outshot the
Hurricanes, 27-25 in the game.
