The New Jersey Devils were defeated by the Flyers in
Philadelphia by a score of 3-2 on Thursday, January 10, 2002.
The first period was scoreless. The Devils outshot
the Flyers 9-5 in the period.
Jiri Dopita beat Brodeur at 12:52 of the second period in a
4 on 4 situation to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. Just 39 seconds
later, Keith Primeau scored a power-play goal to give the Flyers a 2-0
Petr Sykora got the Devils back into the game at 14:21
by beating Cechmanek with a nice blast. Sykora's 12th goal of the
season was assisted by Jason Arnott and Christian Berglund.
The second period ended early when one of the panes of
glass shattered at 15:13 of the period. It was decided that the
remaining 4:47 of the second period would be added to the third period.
Ruslan Fedotenko beat Brodeur at 15:51 of the second period
to give the Flyers a 3-1 lead.
The combined "second periods" ended with the Flyers leading
the Devils 3-1. The shots were even at 13-13 in the period.
Scott Gomez got the Devils within one goal of the Flyers at
12:52 of the third period. Gomez's 5th goal of the season was
assisted by Petr Sykora and Brian Rafalski.
The game ended with the Flyers winning the game, 3-2.
The Devils outshot the Flyers 14-5 in the period and 36-23 in the game.
