The New Jersey Devils defeated the Hurricanes, 2-1, in
Carolina on Saturday, January 5, 2001.
Bates Battaglia scored a shorthanded goal at 14:09 of
the first period. The goal gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead.
The first period ended with the Hurricanes leading the
Devils by a score of 1-0. Carolina outshot New Jersey 7-6 in
the first period.
