December 30, 2001 Devils Beat Oilers 2-1
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Oilers, 2-1 in
Edmonton on Sunday, December 30, 2001.
There was no scoring in the first period, but the Oilers
outshot the Devils, 12-6.
Bobby Holik scored on the power-play at 4:47 of the second
period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Holik's 14th goal of the
season was assisted by Pierre Dagenais.
Randy McKay gave the Devils a 2-0 lead by beating Tommy
Salo at 12:47 of the second period. The goal was McKay's 4th of
the season and was assisted on by Brian Rafalski.
The second period ended with the Devils leading 2-0.
New Jersey outshot Edmonton 12-6 in the period.
Rem Murray beat Martin Brodeur short-handed at 14:12 to
cut the Devils lead to 2-1.
The game ended with the Devils winning, 2-1. The
Devils outshot the Oilers 11-6 in the third period, and 29-24 in the
game.
Brian Gionta made his NHL debut tonight, replacing the
injured Turner Stevenson.
