The New Jersey Devils shutout the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-0
at home on Wednesday, December 26, 2001.
There was no scoring in the first period, but the Devils
outshot the Penguins 10-6.
Brian Rafalski beat Johan Hedberg at 1:27 of the second
period to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. Patrik Elias and Scott Gomez
got assists on Rafalski's 6th goal of the year.
Pierre Dagenais got his second goal of the season at 5:46
to increase the Devils lead to 2-0. John Madden and Turner
Stevenson got assists on the goal.
Bobby Holik scored at 12:51 of the second to give the Devils
a 3-0 lead. John Madden and Scott Niedermayer got assists on Holik's
12th goal of the season.
Jason Arnott, back after missing two games with flu-like
symptoms, beat Hedberg at 16:57 on the power-play to cap the Devils
scoring. Pierre Dagenais and Brian Rafalski assisted on Arnott's
13th goal of the season.
The second period ended with the Devils leading by a score
of 4-0. The Devils outshot the Penguins a whopping 21-5.
There was no scoring in the third period, though the
Devils outshot the Penguins 10-9 in the period.
The game ended with the Devils shutting down the Penguins,
4-0. The Devils outshot the Penguins 41-20 in the game.
The Devils had more shots on Hedberg in the second period than the Penguins
had on Brodeur the entire game.
Martin Brodeur got his second shutout of the season and 53rd
of his career.
