The New Jersey Devils Defeated the New York Islanders
3-2 at home in overtime on Wednesday, December 12, 2001.
Kenny Jonsson scored for the Islanders on the power-play
at 17:31 of the first period, after Mike Commodore proved why he is NOT
ready for the NHL. Commodore could have (should have) raced for
the puck on what would have been an easy icing call -- however he
decided to play the man (Jason Blake chasing him) instead of the puck
-- he ended up tripping him and getting called for the penalty which
led to the goal.
The first period ended with the Islanders leading the
Devils 1-0. The Devils outshot the Islanders 9-6 in the period.
Petr Sykora scored for the Devils at 1:01 of the second
period. Scott Niedermayer and Bobby Holik got assists on Sykora's
6th goal of the season.
Jason Arnott got his 11th goal of the season at 13:46 to
give the Devils a 2-1 lead. Petr Sykora and Brian Rafalski got
assists on the goal.
Michael Peca got a short-handed goal at 16:04 to tie the

There was no scoring in the third period, regulation time
ended with the score tied 2-2. The Devils outshot the Islanders

Overtime began with the Devils on a 1:50 second carry-over
power-play. Scott Niedermayer cashed in on the power-play at 1:25
to hand the Devils a 3-2 victory. Scott Gomez and Bobby Holik got
