October 27, 2001 Devils Defeat Sabres 3-1
The New Jersey Devils defeated the Buffalo Sabres 3-1 at
home, Saturday, October 27, 2001. This win means the Devils now
have a four game winning streak.
Jason Arnott scored at 12:32 in the first period, 5 seconds
into a power-play to give the Devils a 1-0 lead. The goal was
assisted by Brian Rafalski and Patrik Elias.
The first period ended with the Devils leading 1-0.
Buffalo outshot the Devils 10-3 in the period.
JP Dumont got past Ken Daneyko at the Buffalo blue line
and scored at 1:42 in the second on a breakaway to tie the game 1-1.
The second period ended with the game tied, 1-1.
Buffalo outshot the Devils 6-2 in the period.
Petr Sykora scored his fourth goal of the season at 16:01
of the third on the power-play to break the 1-1 tie and give the Devils
a 2-1 lead. His goal was assisted by Jason Arnott and Bobby
Holik. Holik's assist was his 500th career point.
Bobby Holik got an empty net goal at 19:01 to finish off
the Sabres. Sergei Brylin and Randy McKay got assists on the
goal.
The Devils won the game by a final score of 3-1.
The Devils outshot the Sabres 6-5 in the third period, but were outshot
21-11 in the game.
Mike Commodore and Pierre Dagenais were healthy scratches
for the Devils as Jim McKenzie and Andreas Salomonsson were in the
lineup.
