Penalties Kill Devs, lose 4-6
    The Devils lost their home opener against the New York Islanders, Thursday, October 11, 2001.   The Islanders came into the game with an undefeated 3-0 record.   The Devils had lost their only other game this season 6-1.
    Randy McKay and Brian Rafalski were back in the lineup for the Devils; while Pierre Dagenais and Jiri Bicek sat this game out.
    Adrian Aucoin scored a power-play goal at 3:58 to give the Islanders an early 1-0 lead.
    Jason Arnott tied the game at 6:16 with a blast that beat Garth Snow.   Arnott's goal was assisted by Brian Rafalski.   Petr Sykora scored at 13:13 with assists from Jason Arnott and Patrik Elias.
    The first period ended with the Devils leading 2-1.
    Alexei Yashin scored a power-play goal for New York at 4:43 in the second to tie the game.   Mark Parrish put the third power-play goal for the Islanders past Brodeur at 7:29.
    After two periods, the Devils were losing 3-2.
    4:39 into the third period, Jason Arnott got his second goal of the game to tie the game 3-3.   Patrik Elias and Martin Brodeur got assists on the goal.
    Bates scored beat Brodeur at 9:04 to give the Islanders the lead again.   The goal was the fourth goal of the game for the Islanders - but their first even strength goal (the previous three were power-play goals).   Mark Parrish scored his second goal of the game at 13:04 fo give New York a 5-3 lead.
    Petr Sykora scored at 16:11 to bring the Devils within one goal.   Patrik Elias and Jason Arnott got assists on the goal.
    Mark Parrish got an empty net goal at 19:58 to finish off the Devils 6-4.   The goal was Parrish's 3 goal of the game (hat trick) and eigth goal of the season.
    The Devils were 0-4 on the power-play, while the Islanders were a more successful 4-8 with the man advantage.
    Martin Brodeur (0-2) got the loss and Garth Snow (1-0) got the win for New York.   The Devils are now 0-2-0-0 on the season while the Islanders now have a 4-0-0-0 record.
